New Pacific Engagement Visa: Expanding Permanent Migration Opportunities

Last updated on 2024-01-16

Strengthening Pacific Connections through Enhanced Migration Opportunities The Australian Government has responded to Pacific leaders' calls for deeper connections and easier movement within the region. As part of our commitment to building a stronger Pacific Family, we are enhancing access, mobility, and migration opportunities. Boosting Pacific permanent migration to Australia is a key component of this plan.

To support this initiative, the Government is launching a new permanent resident visa program, the Pacific Engagement Visa (PEV), for nationals of participating Pacific Island countries and Timor-Leste. The PEV aims to expand Australia's Pacific diaspora, fostering stronger personal links and promoting cultural, business, and educational exchanges.

In 2024, we will introduce the new Subclass 192 – Pacific Engagement Visa, offering up to 3,000 permanent places annually for citizens of participating Pacific Island countries and Timor-Leste and their immediate family members. This is in addition to Australia’s existing permanent migration program.

On 19 October 2023, the Australian Government passed legislation to implement a ballot system for the PEV, ensuring that eligible nationals from Pacific Island countries and Timor-Leste, regardless of skill level, gender, or background, have an equal chance to apply for a permanent visa to Australia.

Learn more about the eligibility requirements for this new visa on the PEV (subclass 192) page.
